Voice For Residents |

Protect Our Residential Neighborhoods Disruption of people’s homes by intrusive or incompatible neighboring land uses and development should never be taken lightly. In balancing the negative impact of an incompatible or intrusive use on a neighborhood, it is my philosophy that we should never disrupt residents for the benefit of any single business or development opportunity. I continue to take a skeptical view towards claims that economic development trumps the value of people feeling safe in their homes and neighborhoods. In those rare instances when the good of the community as a whole requires disruption of neighborhoods, I strive to ensure the process is respectful and open. The burden should be shared fairly by all of us.
A Voice for Residents Many businesses and organizations that wish to influence local governmental decisions have professional staff dedicated to lobbying and soliciting for decisions in their favor. Individual residents typically have no such advocate other than their elected officials. I consider my primary duty to be that advocate. Even when politically in the minority, or in direct opposition to my own opinions, I feel it is important to respectfully give an effective voice to the concerns of all involved. It is my experience that it takes a lot to motivate people to come speak out about their concerns so when they do, it is usually motivated by an important and valid reason. You will never see me dismissing residents who speak out as merely expressing the opinions of a “vocal minority”.
